A Standard Work Combination Sheet is a visual document that shows, for a given operator or workstation, the exact sequence and timing of manual work, machine work and walking time across one full cycle. It is the tool that makes cycle time analysis visible and improvement targets specific.
A horizontal timeline for one cycle, with vertical bands for manual time, automatic (machine) time, and walking time. Each activity is drawn as a bar of the correct length in its correct band. The chart shows exactly when the operator is working, when they are walking, and when the machine is running unattended.
The chart makes waste obvious: long walking times, operators standing idle while machines run, machines standing idle while operators work manually. Improvement opportunities become concrete, reduce this walk, absorb this idle time by adding a manual task, rebalance work across operators. What was fuzzy becomes visual and measurable.
Observe one full cycle at the station. Time each element to the second. Categorize each element as manual, automatic or walking. Plot each element on the timeline in the correct band. Compare the finished chart to takt time, is the operator idle at the end, or over the limit? The chart shows what to redesign first.
